Instructor of the Year
Matt came home at the beginning of the week and said he was nominated for "Officer Instructor of the Year" out at the site. I was so excited. Of course I knew he would win, him, on the other hand, wasn't so sure. I asked him what the "prize" was if he won, but he wasn't sure. When we lived out in WA they had a JO of the year and one of our friends won it for his command out in Hawaii. He and his wife got to fly to Washington DC and tour around and smooze people all for free. I was really hoping that Matt would win it thinking it would be some great prize. Sure enough, Matt won! I told him he would ;) Anyway, now I'm all excited for my trip to DC and I ask him what he gets and he says, " I get a NAM (navy achievement medal - more chest bling) and a parking space." So I won't be traveling to DC anytime soon and Matt was not at all excited about his new parking space so we made him one for home, because I have genius friends who come up with great ideas! Love you Matt!

Home School for a Day
We had a snow day yesterday and when I told Sydney in the morning she said, "Oh yeah! Now we can try home school!" So that is exactly what we did. We started out with recess. I shoveled they played in the biggest snow banks of this winter. Then we came in for a snack and did show and tell.
Here is a pic of our Math lesson -

Game Time - Sharing and Turn-Taking encouraged :)

And English -

We had a good "school" day yesterday, but Sydney was happy to go back to school today. We are no competition for her friends. Oh and I heard a lot of, "That's not how we do it at school, Mom" too. She would just smile and laugh when I told her, "That's because this is home school."

Happy Valentine's Day
Love is in the air.....okay and so is a lot of candy! The kids each had a Valentine's Day party in their classes. Saul came home from his and immediately separated the cards from the candy and then threw out the cards. Sydney came home from her party with everything unopened and in her little pouch from school. She didn't actually open any of the Valentines until this morning. Saul has pretty much eaten all his candy and Sydney saved all of hers for today. She told me "that's what Valentine's Day is for, to be all sugared up!"
Here is a picture of the Valentines the kids handed out to their friends.
